Tibi Galis

Galis has been Executive Director of AIPR since 2006. Born and raised in Romania, he earned his B.A. in Law and Political Science from Babes-Bolyai University, in Cluj-Napoca. He received his M.A. in International Politics and Political Development from the University of Manchester, and is earning a Ph.D. from the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, at Clark University, with a focus on transitional justice. Previously Galis worked as associate researcher for the UK Parliament, helping develop the UK position on the UN Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, and as rapporteur for the Swedish government at the 2004 Stockholm International Forum on the Prevention of Genocide.

Beata Gladys-Schulman

Dr. Gladys-Schulman joined AIPR in 2008. Born and raised in Poland, she earned both her M.Sc. and her Ph.D. in Geography and Religion from Jagiellonian University, in Krakow. Previously Beata served as consultant to the North American Council of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews and conducted research on a Junior Fulbright Advanced Research Grant as a Visiting Scholar at New York University. Gladys-Schulman coordinates AIPR’s Raphael Lemkin Seminars for Genocide Prevention, and manages Instytut Auschwitz, the Polish branch of AIPR. She is also working to create a permanent genocide prevention center for the Auschwitz Institute in Oswiecim.

Samantha Horn

Horn joined AIPR in 2010. She earned a B.A. in Philosophy and a B.A. in Political Science from SUNY Buffalo, and a J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law. In 2011 she served as mediation instructor in a program at the Catholic University College of Ghana, in Sunyani, organized by the Giving to Ghana Foundation, St. John’s University School of Law, and Fordham University School of Law in conjunction with the opening of the Catholic University’s Conflict Resolution Center. In addition to serving as Legal Associate, Horn is Program Director for the Global Government edition of the Raphael Lemkin Seminar for Genocide Prevention.

Marissa Goldfaden Bleier

Bleier joined AIPR in 2011. She holds a B.A. in English from SUNY Binghamton and an M.S. in Global Affairs, with a concentration in Human Rights and Humanitarian Assistance, from New York University. Previously she served as Managing Editor of the Interdisciplinary Journal of Human Rights Law.

James Waller

Dr. Waller joined the Auschwitz Institute staff in July 2012 as Academic Programs Director. From 2008 to 2012, he held the position of AIPR Affiliated Scholar, as well as Curriculum Coordinator for the Raphael Lemkin Seminar for Genocide Prevention. He continues to serve as an instructor at the Lemkin Seminar series, as he has dating back to 2008. In March 2010 Waller was named Cohen Chair for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Keene State College in New Hampshire. He has been awarded summer fellowships by, and been a teaching fellow with, the Holocaust Educational Foundation at Northwestern University (1996 and 2007-2012) and at the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC (1999, 2003, 2005). His book on perpetrators of genocide, Becoming Evil: How Ordinary People Commit Genocide and Mass Killing (Oxford University Press, 2002), was released by Oxford in a revised and updated second edition in 2007 and is scheduled for a third edition release in early 2014. Waller also is contracted with Oxford University Press for a book titled Genocide: Ever Again? with an anticipated publication date of late 2014. His fieldwork has included research in Northern Ireland, the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, and Argentina.

Daniel Mitzner

Mitzner joined AIPR in 2011. He earned his B.A. in Political Science from SUNY Buffalo, and his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law. In 2007, he traveled to China and Tibet as part of the Delegation on Diplomacy of the International Scholar Laureate Program. There he participated in a training program on international relations with Chinese students of the Shanghai Institute of International Studies. Currently Mitzner manages and organizes U.S. conferences and events for AIPR and its partners. He is also aiding in the development of a new program on corporate social responsibility and genocide prevention.

Christopher Kousouros

Kousouros joined AIPR in 2011. He earned a B.A. in International Studies with Honors from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. As Program Coordinator, he organizes training seminars and planning meetings in connection with the Latin American Network and is responsible for maintaining the Network’s online forum.

Lily Samuels

Samuels joined AIPR in 2012. She earned a B.A. in Government from Smith College and received an M.A. in Human Rights from Columbia University. In 2010, she served in the Programme for Crisis Response and Reconstruction at the United Nations’ International Labour Organization in Geneva. A member of the National Political Science Honors Society, her personal research involves women’s political participation in post-conflict contexts.

Amy Schwartz

Schwartz joined AIPR in 2008. She earned her B.A. in history from the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University. Previously she worked at the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York and the Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation.
