URUGUAY

In coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an initiative has been suggested to use the Network’s genocide prevention Curriculum to educate Uruguay’s peacekeepers. A planning meeting was held in Montevideo on 29 November, 2012, between AIPR, the Office of the UN Special Advisers on the Prevention of Genocide and the Responsibility to Protect (OSAPG), the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay. The purpose of the meeting was to explore the existing options for the implementation of this curriculum into the education system for Uruguay’s Peacekeepers. On 30 November, 2012, an introductory workshop was held in Montevideo on the general aspects of genocide prevention, in which various educational modules on genocide prevention were presented, as well as the work of the OSAPG on the policy options available to aid in the prevention of genocide and crimes against humanity. The workshop was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign of Affairs, and various representatives of Uruguay’s Diplomatic Academy.
